Our premises were converted from a cottage with approximately 2500 m2 of land and enjoy a pleasant location on the outskirts of Inverurie benefiting from lovely views over Port Elphinstone towards Kinkell and the countryside beyond.
It is within easy reach of central Inverurie town and surrounding areas offering easy access from the main A96 road while still offering a degree of isolation associated with a rural setting.
Children are separated in self-contained units according to their age and development needs. There are indoor and outdoor play areas, facilities for sand and water play, creative activities, concentrated one-on-one activity and rest areas. The equipment available was carefully chosen to be suitable for the children’s age and stage of development.
Our indoor and outdoor areas are created to care for all levels of confidence; from children who want to play quietly to those who have boundless levels of energy.
Registered for 45 children, from birth to five year olds, we also would like to promote our before and after school club. The nursery will accommodate all areas of the curriculum, making sure the children have the opportunity of physical, messy and free play. We also have a quiet room based on the ground floor where the children can take the opportunity to rest or sleep.
The under 2 year olds play areas are located on the ground floor with pleasant views over the garden. Inclusive of its own separate baby sleeping area and generous play areas to cater for the babies where they can feel safe, warm and secure and have constant supervision.
The 2 to 5 years olds play areas are located on the first floor. With two very spacious rooms, the play areas are designed to offer flexibility in providing a wide range of activities.
Play and learn activities
We want to encourage their development and learning through feeding their curiosity and responses by spending time with the children and listening to what they say We operate through spontaneous planning and child-led activities in accordance with the pre-birth to three and curriculum for excellence guidelines.
We have two outdoor spaces providing choice for the children when playing outside. One front garden which is landscaped and includes a paved area allowing the children to play with cars, bikes, trikes and a trampoline. The back garden is a large more open space that allows the children to really run around an use their imaginations in our “secret garden” (a wooded area hidden behind the small garden). This garden contains large old trees and other nooks and crannies. There is a range selection of other equipment, such as a wendy house, seesaws and balance beams. At Edgehill we aim to have the children outside at least once a day and we are fully equipped to hold meal times outdoors in addition to other learning activities, such as sensory play and arts and crafts outside.
